Who Is Jesus to You? Let Your Answer Define Your Sacrifice

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
*- Matthew 16:16 -*

Mama Grace had served her small community church for years—cooking, cleaning, praying, and giving. But when her daughter was sent home over unpaid fees, she turned to the church pastor for help. Sadly, he had nothing to offer. “After all my sacrifices for this church and for God, no one helped?” she wept. Hurt and confused, she stopped attending.

Peter boldly declared, “You are the Christ”—not to impress, but because truth burned in his heart. Paul also declared, “I have fought the good fight… I have kept the faith,” not because life was fair, but because Christ was worth every sacrifice. Like Peter and Paul, many faithful servants gave sacrificially, not always seeing earthly rewards. But faith isn’t a trade—it’s a testimony. Like Mama Grace, when pain or disappointment strikes, we may be tempted to ask, What have I really gained from serving God? But the true witness of faith doesn’t come from what we get—it comes from who we know. Our witness shines brightest when we serve not for gain, but out of love. Ask yourself today: “Who is Jesus to me?” Let your answer lead your sacrifice. You are called to witness—even when it costs.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

Take time to reflect on a moment when your service to God felt unappreciated or unrewarded. Journal about how that experience shaped your faith. Meditate on Matthew 16:16 and 2 Timothy 4:7, asking God to renew your heart to serve out of love, not expectation. Share this message with someone who may be struggling with disappointment in ministry, and discuss ways to encourage one another in steadfast faith. Finally, identify one act of service you can do this week—not for recognition, but purely as a testimony of love for Christ.

Join Us in Prayer

“Lord Jesus, You are the Christ—the Son of the living God. When disappointment tempts us to question our sacrifices, remind us that our service is a testimony of love, not a transaction. Heal the wounds of those like Mama Grace, who’ve given much and felt unseen. Renew our hearts to serve faithfully, not for reward, but because You are worthy. Let our lives declare, ‘I have kept the faith,’ no matter the cost. Amen.”
