“Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”
– Luke 2:49 –
A young musician, raised in a family of doctors, spends evenings composing songs instead of studying anatomy. His parents fret until they hear him play at a community event—where his music brings healing to a grieving crowd. Later, he whispers, “This is why I had to do it”
Like Jesus in the temple, sometimes God disrupts our plans—even good ones—to fulfil a higher purpose. Mary and Joseph didn’t understand His actions (Luke 2:50), yet they trusted. In the same way, when our routines are interrupted, it may be God inviting us to deeper surrender. Don’t fear divine detours. What feels like loss may actually be alignment with God’s greater will. In Luke 2:49, Jesus’s purpose took precedence—even over parental expectations. Today, choose presence over predictability. Let go of what’s familiar to follow what is eternal. Prioritize His will, and you’ll find your true home in His love.
🛤️ A Journey of Reflection and Action
Set aside 15 minutes this week to journal moments where your plans were unexpectedly disrupted. Ask God in prayer if these interruptions might be nudges toward a higher purpose. Meditate on Luke 2:49 and reflect on what “the Father’s business” looks like in your life right now. Share this message with a friend or discuss it in your faith group, focusing on how divine purpose can realign our expectations. You can also write a short letter to yourself affirming your commitment to follow God’s direction—even when it defies logic or tradition.

Heavenly Father,
When our plans are interrupted, help us trust that Your hand is at work. Teach us to release control and walk in obedience, even when we don’t fully understand the destination. May we find comfort in Your presence and courage in Your calling. Let our hearts be aligned with Your will, not the expectations of this world. Redirect us whenever necessary—because Your purpose is greater than our plans. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
