“The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew”
— Matthew 7:25. —
After a heavy storm, Jordan noticed his grandfather’s old oak tree still standing while others had fallen.
“Why is this one still up?” he asked.
His grandfather smiled and said,
“It’s been through worse—its roots run deep”
Jordan understood—strength isn’t proven in sunny weather; it’s revealed when the winds come.
Jesus makes it clear—saying “Lord, Lord” is not enough (Matthew 7:21). It’s not our words or even our outward works that form a firm foundation, but a life rooted in obedience to Him. When storms hit—loss, hardship, uncertainty—it’s the doers of His word who remain standing (James 1:22). Obedience isn’t glamorous, but it anchors us in grace. Like the wise builder, we dig deep through prayer, trust, and faith-filled action. And when trials come, our house holds firm—not because storms don’t come, but because Christ is our rock (Psalm 18:2).
Let your faith go beyond lip service—build it in Christ.
🛤 A Journey of Reflection and Action
Take a moment to journal about the “storms” you’ve faced recently—what were your roots anchored in during those times? Meditate on Matthew 7:24–27 and James 1:22, asking God to show where your obedience may be shallow or rooted in fear. Share the lesson with a friend or small group and discuss how each of you can deepen your foundation in Christ. Commit to one small act of obedience this week—even if it’s hard or unnoticed. Reflect on Psalm 18:2 daily as your reminder that Christ is your unshakeable rock.

Heavenly Father,
When storms rage and winds blow, anchor our souls in You. Let us not just speak Your name but obey Your Word with all our hearts. Teach us to dig deep in faith, prayer, and trust so that our foundation remains firm. In moments of weakness, remind us that Your strength is made perfect. May we live not for appearances, but from deep roots in Christ. Build us into doers of Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
