“By their fruits you shall know them”-Matthew 7:16
Two vendors sell “homemade” apple pies. One baker’s pies are gorgeous—golden crusts, perfect lattices—but leave customers with stomachaches. The other’s pies look humble, with uneven edges, but burst with flavor and warmth. The truth was always in the tasting.
Jesus’ words—”By their fruits you shall know them” (Matthew 7:16)—cut through the noise of spiritual performance and polished appearances. In a world of smooth talk and curated images, He points to what truly matters: the fruit of a life. Not charisma or eloquence, but love, patience, humility, and truth. Like pies at a market, lives reveal their ingredients. Some look perfect but leave others bitter or hollow. Others seem plain, yet nourish deeply and endure. The difference? The root—the true source within. Don’t settle for surface religion or shallow charm. Let Christ in you bear what no performance ever can: lasting fruit, integrity, and soul-deep nourishment.
A Journey of Reflection and Action
To deepen your understanding of how your faith is expressed in daily life, consider journaling about specific instances this week where your actions reflected (or could have better reflected) the “fruit” of love, patience, humility, and truth. Take time for quiet meditation, perhaps on Matthew 7:16-20, asking yourself what “ingredients” truly define your spiritual walk. Share this message with a trusted friend or family member, discussing how to discern true character beyond outward appearances. Engage in a small group discussion about the importance of integrity over performance in a world often focused on image, and brainstorm practical ways to cultivate “soul-deep nourishment” in your community.
Join Us in Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You acknowledging that You see beyond all outward appearances to the true root of our hearts. In a world that often values performance and superficial charm, help us to always remember Jesus’ words: “By their fruits you shall know them.” Grant us the wisdom to cultivate a deep, abiding connection with Christ, so that our lives may truly bear the fruit of love, patience, humility, and truth. May our actions speak louder than our words, nourishing those around us and glorifying Your holy name. Amen.
