Living as God’s True Children: A Pentecost Reflection

You have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’– Romans 8:15 –

A child in an orphanage longs for a family. One day, a loving couple adopts her. Suddenly, her world changes. She no longer feels like an outsider but belongs—secure in a home where she can freely call her new parents “Mom” and “Dad,” no longer fearing abandonment but embraced in unconditional love.

On Pentecost, we celebrate the Holy Spirit’s outpouring, empowering us to live as God’s true children. Like a newly adopted child calling her parents “Mom” and “Dad,” the Spirit gives us the spirit of adoption, enabling us to cry out “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15). This is not a spirit of fear or bondage, but one of loving relationship and acceptance (Galatians 4:6-7). The challenge for us is to live fully in this truth. Let the Spirit free you from fear, lead you in trust, and remind you daily: You are chosen, cherished, and secure in the Father’s love.

A Journey of Reflection and Action

After engaging with the reflection provided in the poster, take time to journal about your thoughts on adoption and belonging. Meditate on the scriptures Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:6-7, allowing the Spirit to speak to your heart. Share the message with friends or family, discussing how the concept of spiritual adoption impacts your life. Consider joining a small group to explore these themes together and support each other in living out this truth. These practical actions will help deepen your understanding of spiritual adoption and strengthen your faith journey.
