“‘I am the vine; you are the branches…’ and ‘…whoever abides in me bears much fruit’”
John 15:5 –
Ruth cares for a tomato plant she has grown all season. One branch hangs weakly with no fruit, while the others, firmly connected, are full of ripe tomatoes. She gently ties the weak branch back to the main stem, hoping it will come back to life. In that moment, she sees the truth: only connection brings growth.
Jesus says He’s the vine; we’re the branches (John 15:5)—not just a metaphor, but our lifeline. Like a tomato plant that looks alive but has no fruit, we won’t grow if we’re not connected to Him. In our busy lives, staying close to Jesus through prayer, Scripture, and loving others—God the Father (the Vinedresser!) prunes and nurtures us. The challenge is to stay connected, no matter the distractions. Keep holding on to Jesus, and your life will bear fruit.
