Love Like Jesus-John 13:34

A tired nurse stays late to comfort an elderly patient who has no family visitors. She listens to his stories, fixes his blanket, and prays with him. Later, a colleague asks, “Why do you do this? You’re not even assigned to him.” She smiles: “Because someone once did the same for me.”

Jesus didn’t say, ‘They’ll know you by your doctrine or rituals.’ He said love—the kind that sacrifices, like the nurse who stayed late, or Jesus Himself pausing for the sick, the lonely, the ‘unassigned’ (Mark 1:40-41). Love sees the overlooked and refuses indifference. In a divided world, this love is revolutionary. A single act of kindness can echo eternity—even becoming how someone sees Jesus today. Let your love be your loudest sermon.

A Journey of Reflection and Action
Having engaged with this reflection, take a moment to identify one person in your life who might feel overlooked or lonely, and perform a small act of kindness for them this week—perhaps a call, a note, or a helping hand. Set aside time to meditate on John 13:34 and Mark 1:40-41, asking God to show you how to love sacrificially in your daily interactions. Start a journal to record acts of love you offer or receive, noting how they reflect Jesus’ love. Share this message with someone, encouraging them to let their love be a sermon, and discuss with a group: “How can we show Jesus’ love to the ‘unassigned’ in our lives?”
